Hello from Fremantle, Western Australia!

Hello - I'm flat Lilli!

I just had a great adventure with my new friends in Western Australia. I met Jessica, Jason and Aiden. Aiden is almost 2 years old and he showed me all of the fun places to see in and around Fremantle, Western Australia. He had a lot of fun showing me around his home - despite this picture from today!

Fremantle is the main port city of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. You can learn more about Fremantle on the Internet.

Here's a map of Fremantle.

You can see the Australia is very, VERY far away from Ohio. It's practically on the other side of the world!

The Harbor

We visited the harbour first. This is where a lot of ships come in and out every day.

There are small boats docked here.

And there are some very big fishing boats docked here. You can get fresh fish and chips right on the harbour.

WA Museum - Shipwreck Galleries

We walked by the Western Australia Maritime Museum on our adventure too. I got to sit on a few very big anchors!

Some of the oldest shipwreck's are contained with the museum.

Look at all these anchors!

Bather's Beach and Carnac Island

Fremantle is on the Indian Ocean. It was a beautiful day and some families were playing on the beach!

Look in the distance you can see a lighthouse.

Behind me in this photo is the rest of the Maritime Museum. There is a lot of history in Fremantle from convicts coming to Western Australia by boat, and many military boats coming and leaving from Fremantle. The US Navy also still visits Fremantle as a port of call from time to time.

Here you may not be able to see it well, but there is a small island in the distance. That's Carnac Island. There are a few islands off of the Fremantle coast. That's my little friend, Aiden, running in the sand. It was a lovely day!

The Round House

We also visited the Round House in Fremantle. It is the oldest building still standing in Western Australia. It was built in 1830 and was used for colonial and indigenous prisoners until 1886. Then it was used as a police lock-up until 1900. Now it is a museum.

Here I'm pointing to the Australian flag on top of the Round House!

There is a tunnel under the Round House. It was built in 1837 by the Fremantle Whaling Company, as the area was known as a whaling hub in those days.

Fremantle City Centre

Here Aiden and I are enjoying a ride through the city of Fremantle. It's always very busy on the weekends!

There are lots of old buildings and architecture in Fremantle.

The main street has lots of cafes and shops.

I really enjoyed visiting Fremantle! It was lots of fun.
